Wild Green Smoothie Powder

Chickweed (Stellaria media) is a delicate herb that grows in the cool months here on meadows and the forest floor. You can tell it from it’s tiny white star flower and from the little fuzzy mohawk that lines just one side of it’s stem. A wonderful tonic herb that is high in many vitamins and minerals Chickweed can be taken both internally and externally for soothing inflammation and skin irritation, as a fever reducer, wound healer as well as a host of other uses. I once used a chickweed poultice to clear up a conjunctivitis infection in my eye. It is a particularly tender herb that is also wonderful in salads or as a fresh trail side snack.

Cleavers (Gallium aparine) is another lovely wild herb. Growing in lanky spires through and around other forest plants, whorled leaves ascending it’s impossibly thin stem. Velcro like barbs cover the entire plant enabling it to stick to passing animals but making eating it fresh unpleasant. Cleavers is highly regarded among herbalist as a lymphatic tonic helping to stimulate the drainage of lymph-engorged tissues. It is very high in vitamin C and is also used widely to treat skins problems, bladder infections and ulcers.

We are going to dehydrate and powder them to make a super green powder to add to smoothies for an extra wild greens vitamin boost.

Here are the Cleavers and chickweed ready to be dehydrated

Blending and powdering the dried herbs

Viola, the finished product! A stunning green. It smells very fresh and grassy. Ready to add to smoothies and green drinks!
